Bradenton was first explored in 1539 by Hernando de Soto and this is celebrated each spring with a month long Florida Heritage
Festival. It is located on Hwy 41 and is surrounded by waterways.
The biggest attractions are the local beaches but before you head there, visit downtown Bradenton, De Soto National Memorial
Commemorative Monument and Trail, Village of the Arts and Manatee Village Historical Park. Children of all ages will enjoy a visit
to the South Florida Museum and meet Snooty the manatee.
Two bridges link Bradenton to Anna Maria Island, which has sandy shores backed by dunes. It is underdeveloped but attracts
surfers to experience the big breakers. To the north is Anna Maria pier, built in 1910.
