EPCOT

EPCOT was the second theme park at Walt Disney World, opening 1st October 1982. EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It spans 300 acres, more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom park and visiting it and seeing everything makes for a long day. Hint - ditch the flipflops as comfortable shoes are definately required - I am sure it says so in small print on the ticket ...

On its opening in 1982, E. Cardon Walker (top executive at Walt Disney Productions from 1960s to 1980s) is is quoted as saying "To all who come to this place of joy, hope of enterprise and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all. May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere in the world."

Inspired by world fairs, Epcot includes two major sections – Future World, dominated by the 180 foot tall Spaceship Earth geosphere (aka giant golf ball) and is divided again into East and West, and World Showcase, with many restaurants in the national pavilions from around the world and a few have rides inside.

EPCOT is really a 2 day visit to see everything - if you know what you want to see and what you don't mind missing then a full 1 day is needed - stay late for the Illuminations show.
